With temperatures in the 90s and the dew point approaching the 80s, Todd County has been sweltering under the hot summer sun for nearly two weeks now. Pictured is a group of teens who decided that an afternoon at Horseshoe Lake was just what they needed to beat the heat.

A primary Hispanic Community Liaison has been needed for Todd County. Gloria Edin of Staples has accepted this newly created position. She told county commissioners at their July board meeting that she welcomed the opportunity and challenge of the job. Her responsibilities will include providing interpretation services for public and private agencies and businesses.

The first game of the OTW elimination play-off series will be played in Browerville next Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the high school ball field, with the locals engaging Bertha in this game. The league standings for the central division are: Verndale, first; Browerville, second; Bertha, third; Bluffton and Clarissa tied for fourth, and Eagle Bend, sixth.

With all the preliminary plans for the 1949 fair virtually complete, the management is making promises of the biggest fair in the sixty-six year history of this institution. Last year’s exhibition produced more than six thousand individual exhibits and had larger 4-H club and school exhibits.
