Kristy Johnson, Girls Scouts Land of Lakes Council Membership and Marketing Coordinator, and Kathy Konetzko presented Deb Mortenson with a pin for 20 years of active involvement in Girl Scouts. She has been a Brownie Leader, Junior Girl Scout Leader, Cadette Leader and has served as community coordinator for Service Union 30.

Nichole Tyrrell was recently selected as the 1999 National Guernsey Princess. She was crowned at the Breeds National Convention in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. The contest consisted of individualized and group judging, skit and impromptu questions.
75 Years Ago
August 11, 1949
On Wednesday evening, August 3, Browerville defeated Bertha in the first game of the OTW playoffs in the central section. The locals, with Jonckowski on the mound, played very nice ball. The local boys scored while they held the Bertha boys scoreless until the ninth inning. The outstanding batter of the day was Jim Nalezny with three hits and scoring three runs in three official times at bat.

Bulging grain bins all over the nation pose the burning question whether agricultural America will be able to convert this grain into porkchops and steaks, butter for bread and cream for coffee in keeping with the traditional pattern of the average American family. Post war demand threw America’s food production pattern out of kilter.
