Tackling the problems of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use in Todd County is a high priority for Public Health Director Doris Jennissen. She highlighted these issues from a Community Health Assessment, which was presented to county commissioners at their September 7 board meeting. In a county survey, the risk of injury caused by drinking and driving was identified as the number one problem in our communities.

The Tigers football team opened their 1999 season with a pair of victories. On September 3, the Tigers traveled to Menahga for the season opener and came away with a rain-shortened victory 20-8. The Tigers controlled the ball and rushed for 179 yards, while the defense limited Menahga to 59 yards rushing.

There will be a meeting of the Ladies Bowling League on Friday evening, September 16, at 8 p.m., at the Leo Achter residence. Ladies who have not been members in previous years and would like to join are urged to attend. If you cannot attend and would like to bowl, please send in your name to Mrs. Leo Achter.

An unprecedented drain on the funds of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis to combat an epidemic in scattered parts of the nation, has resulted in a special drive for funds in oder to meet the emergency. The appeal for funds is being made and will not involve any drives in a strict sense of the word. Persons who realize the seriousness of polio, who know the cost of restoring those afflicted to useful lives, are being asked to contribute to the drive.
