It was pretty much routine business with the council passing pay requests and building permits. Lee Stewart, owner of the drive-in, had requested the approval of the planning and zoning board and the council approved the conversion of the property from commercial to residential. Stewart said that if he is unable to sell the property he will convert it to two apartment units for rent but said he thought it would be nice to have more than one diner in town. The drive-in has been closed since Browerville Days when a car driven by a teenager damaged the building.

You do not have to be a computer hacker or even interested in computers to understand that they are integrated into every aspect of our lives. The year 2000 is not the true dawning of the millennium, 2001 is, but it is the date that many computers will stop recognizing the date and will cease to function. The worst case scenarios have major shut-downs of power and services and records could be destroyed or lost.

Final arrangements are being made for the annual “Feather Party” to be held in the basement of St. Peter’s Church, Monday evening, November 21. Bingo will be played for 25 first class turkeys and an assortment of geese, ducks and chickens.

Browerville Hardware Co. will be one of thousands of appliance dealers participating in a $2,000,000 “Giveaway to top all giveaways,” Lloyd A. Bergh, manager, has announced. Prizes will include nearly $2,000,000 worth of new 1950 custom model Crosley Shelvador refrigerators to be given away, and 125 awards to grand prize winners nationally.
