25 Years Ago

June 6, 1996

Seventh Grader Ryan Baron won first place in the Long Prairie River Stewardship History Project. Ryan worked hard obtaining histories from many people about life along the Long Prairie River. His first-place prize was $150. Missy Carpenter, an 11th grader, took first place for the cover design for the booklet. Her prize was $75.

The Alexandria Technical College’s 35th annual commencement was the setting and Dawn Steinmetz was in the spotlight. Dawn is from Browerville and is the daughter of Thomas and Ramona Steinmetz. Dawn, who is enrolled in the office information system specialist program, received the “Outstanding Student” award of merit. This award is given annually to one student from each of the college’s 40 programs.


75 Years Ago

June 8, 1946

Miss Sally Anderson of Long Prairie became the bride of John (Ko-Ko) Konetzko of Browerville on June 3. Reverend Father Kuzniak officiated. The couple was attended by their friends, Miss Alice Pinouine of Long Prairie and John Wrobel of Browerville. The couple is well-known residents of this vicinity. Sally has been employed as an LPN at the Long Prairie Hospital.

Miss Lorraine Benning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Benning of Browerville, became the bride of Mrs. Kenneth Gitar of Duluth on May 25. Miss Ann Swepinskiu and George Welshinger stood up for the couple at the ceremony.
