A new liaison officer is monitoring the halls at the Bertha-Hewitt and Browerville schools.

Todd County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Thorstad was excited for the opportunity as he enjoys working with kids. The previous Liaison Officer Jon Barber took another position.

Thorstad is an Osakis native and graduated from the Osakis School in 2013. He was an active athlete as a starting running back on the football team his junior and senior years. He was also active in wrestling and track. He was just a hundredth of a second short of placing first at state track.

While he felt he wasn’t the best wrestler, he remains a volunteer wrestling coach for Sauk Centre-Melrose.

He attended Ridgewater College in Willmar, where he also wrestled, and took a 10-week skills course at Alexandria Technical College, graduating in the summer of 2017. . .
