New personal bests are set

The Verndale Pirates Cross Country Team competed at the Dale Skallerud Invitational on Thursday October 3. It was a great day for a race with temperatures around 65 and a slight wind.

The race started with 8th grader Charlie Johnson running the junior high 3.2 k or 2 mile boys race. He competed against 90 other runners, finishing in the top 20 with a time of 13 minutes and 20 seconds.

Heta Tervola Hultberg ran the junior high girls race, competing against 66 other runners finishing with the best time of the season with 19 minutes and 50 seconds. Not running with the junior high girls today was Aaliyah Bailey.

Next was the varsity boys 5k race. Korby Grieger was the first Pirates runner to cross the line in 22 minutes and 43 seconds for a personal best, followed by Kristian Larsen who completed the course with another personal best in 28 minutes and 28 seconds.

Not running today were Jayden Herner, Jordan Bittner and Logan Lamphere.

The last race of the evening was the varsity girls 5k. Angelica Arroyo was the first Pirates runner to cross the line with a finishing time of 25 minutes and 28 seconds.

Hailey Horn completed the course with a new personal best of 29 minutes and 02 seconds....
