Patriotism shines




The Verndale School held its Veterans Day program on Friday, November 8.

The Wadena VFW Post 3922 posted the colors as the Verndale High School Band played the Star Spangled Banner. 

Awards were presented for the Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy essay contest winners for the VFW Auxiliary.

Patriot’s Pen winners were Aynslee Ohrmundt taking second place and Emilia Schwartz placing first.

Schwartz read her essay that emphasized the importance of using one’s voice in democracy without violence, stressing the need for individuals to stand up for themselves and be heard. They argue that mere presence is insufficient; one must actively engage to be noticed and effective. Listening to and sharing common opinions strengthens collective action. The speaker asserts that kindness is crucial for gaining support, as people are less likely to heed rude or dishonest individuals. They advocate for a united front of kindness to make a difference, suggesting that small acts can create a ripple effect, leading to broader change.
