Raiders battle injuries and illness
by Coach Michael Arvidson
Last week began with two triangulars on the docket. Tuesday, we went to Staples to square off against the host Cardinals and 6a foe Pelican Rapids. The Raiders drew first blood with a Justin Olson pin in the opening round. The Vikings cut it in half in front of a five-match run for BHVPP. Arceneau with the fall, Jares and Revering took forfeits, Deagen earned a decision, and Thompson claimed a major for the 37-3 lead.
The Vikings rallied off three matches in a row and the Raiders claimed two of the final four bouts for the 43-19 victory.
The last round of the evening was very competitive and entertaining as each match wrestled seemed to be on the edge of bonus points one way or another. The Raiders did a great job earning extra points and not giving up bonus points.
The Cardinals took the first two matches by decisions for the 6-0 lead. Arceneau and Revering each picked up a major decision to swing the lead to 8-6. A really tough match for Jares ended in only a decision as the lead swung back to the host squad.
Then the Raiders got some distance as Deagen and Thompson collected first-period falls for the 20-9 lead. . .
