News from Eagle Bend's Past

1997 is proving to be a busy year for members of the Minnesota National Guard. Twice in the past four months, Governor Arne Carlson has ordered them into action. In January they were sent to help northwestern Minnesota dig itself out of massive snowdrifts. As the record snowfall melted, once again the Guards were mobilized, this time to help with flood control along the Red River. Specialist E4 Arlen Johnson, Eagle Bend, has been involved in both catastrophes. He’s been with the National Guard for the past 12 years. Staff Sergeant E6 Ron Miller, Bertha, was involved in the flood disaster relief. Miller, originally from Clarissa, is a 10-year veteran of the Marines and has five years in the guards. Both are members of Company C, 142nd Engineers Construction Battalion HV based at Camp Ripley.
