News from Eagle Bend's Past

25 Years Ago

July 2, 1997

Navy Airman Curtis A. Marcyes, son of Sheldon R. and Leona M. Marcyes of Eagle Bend, recently arrived in the Persian Gulf to support U.S. interests and Navy operational objectives in the area. Marcyes is currently on a six-month deployment to the western Pacific Ocean aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation, the lead ship of the USS Constellation Battle Group.

This past weekend the Minnesota High School Rodeo Association held its finals at Bemidji. Among those attending was Danny “Stretch” Smith of Rainbow Ranch, rural Eagle Bend. “Stretch” is a rodeo clown and barrel-man who bills himself as “six and a half feet of pure comedy”. He is a member of the World Clown Association and the Clowns of America International. Stretch was selected by votes of members of the High School Rodeo Association from throughout the entire state.


50 Years Ago

July 29, 1972

Many friends and relatives, alumni and former teachers (190 signed the guest book) returned to Eagle Bend on Sunday, June 25, which has officially been proclaimed as Martha Roach Day in Eagle Bend.

Two local girls were named as first and second runners-up in the Miss Vacationland Pageant held last weekend in Wadena. First runner-up was Barbara Reierson, who won the evening gown title; and second runner-up was Arlene Fransen, who won the swimming suit contest and was chosen Miss Congeniality by the other contestants.
