25 Years Ago

August 13, 1997

Bruce Nelson’s Small Engine and Repair is now officially open for business. He will repair mowers, tillers, snowblowers, chainsaws and other small engines. Nelson graduated at the top of his class, with honors, from Alexandria Tech School’s Marine and Small Engine two year course. In 1996, he placed second in the state competition for air-cooled engines and this year, third place statewide for motorcycles.

July 31 was the last night of the league play for the Double Eagle Ladies League. Sandy Bain had a birdie on Green Course-Hole 2 and Verneil Thompson had a birdie on Hole 8. Our weekly winners in the putting contest were Sandy Bain and Terry Glennie. Sandy Bain had a great night of golf as she took both low gross (41) and low net.

50 Years Ago

August 10, 1972

Nancy Gjerstad of the Wykeham Willing Workers of Eagle Bend, Connie Westergren of the Bertha Hi-Flyers of Bertha and Lori Rach of the Hustlin Rustics of Clarissa were named to represent Todd County in the Style Review at the 1972 Minnesota State Fair.

Hal Gesser is a candidate for Clerk of District Court for Todd County. The incumbent, Adeline Hengemuhle, is retiring after six years in office. The Clerk of District Court manages the businesses of the county including maintaining the files and keeping accurate accounting records. The office of clerk of district court currently operates on a total budget of approximately $20,000 per year.
