News from Eagle Bend's Past

Not too many years ago, one could drive through any Todd County town or city and see tractors sitting at the dealers, waiting to be sold. Little by little the red ones, orange ones, gray and blue ones disappeared as the dealers went out of business for one reason or another. Soon it was only Hillig Implement, the John Deere dealer in Long Prairie, and Hess Equipment Ageo-White, in Eagle Bend. Within the next week following an auction sale, Marve Hillig will lock the doors on his implement business one last time. After 32 years, he will be completely out of business. The closing leaves Hess Equipment as the county’s lone sales and service full line farm implement dealer.
