Navy Seaman Bonnie J. Beach, daughter of Roger D. and Virginia M. Beach of Eagle Bend, has recently departed on a five-month South American deployment aboard the dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island. Beach is one of more than 300 sailors and 400 marines aboard the ship.

The Eagle Valley Football team traveled to Murdock last Thursday to play a non-conference opener against KMS. It was a hard-fought game and played pretty well considering it was the first game for both teams and many inexperienced players were playing their first varsity game. The final score was 14-6.

August 31, 1972
The 1972-73 school year began Monday with high school enrollment being up from last year, 210 compared to 202. Elementary enrollment was down 206, compared to 218 last year. Mrs. Waldahl, Mr. James, and Mr. Mathison are looking forward to a good year.

Wayne, the five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Seward, met with a painful accident Wednesday evening at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wally Nelson. The riding power mower being operated by his older brother, Ricky, severed the toes on one of Wayne’s feet. He was taken to the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria where he is reported as doing well as can be expected.
