News from Eagle Bend's Past

The Eagle Valley School Board dealt with issues ranging from the auditor’s report to remedial learning classes. But what evoked the most passionate debate was the starting time for home football games. Athletic Director Rick Hest and Coach John Sieling asked the board to change the starting time to 7:30 instead of the present 8 p.m. Hest explained the Prairie Conference schools all start at 7:30 unless mutually agreed by the schools. And some have even gone to 7 p.m. Don Hanson replied it’s difficult for those who live on the farms to get the chores done and be in town by 7:30. Hest explained it’s in the best interest of the kids who are getting back at midnight or 1 a.m. from games.

The Eagle Valley Rebels traveled to Menahga in hopes of upsetting the 5-2 host team. Two fumbles and two interceptions that led to touchdowns ended any thought of a happy ending. Bill Zeidler was attempting to pass, was rushed and hit as he threw the ball. The ball ended up in the hands of a rushing defender who then ran 35 yards for the touchdown.
