News from Eagle Bend's Past

25 Years Ago

May 20, 1998

The Eagle Valley softball team ended the regular season with a 14-1 record. The Rebels also claimed the Prairie Conference Title with a 9-0 record. The regular season finale was a conference game at Browerville. The final score was 8-0 in favor of Eagle Valley. Jenny Sovich, Dana Dickinson and Jackee Svaren combined the pitching duties and threw a no-hitter against the Tigers.

Gussie Drake and Joy Miller are the operators of Gussie’s Blumen Gardens and Greenhouse in Clotho. Gussie (Kortum) Drake is one of Todd County’s Master Gardeners whose specialty is flowers and vegetables. She began her plant sales on a small scale last year with Joy’s assistance. They have enlarged the available selections as well as creating visual effects with flowers.


66 Years Ago

May 23, 1957

At 3:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17, the senior class and their chaperones, Mr. Harold Nohre and Miss Diane Lockwood, boarded a school bus, driven by Mr. Harry Mowers, for a trip to Duluth where they spent the first day and that night. They spent some time at Silver Bay and Split Rock Lighthouse. From there they drove to International Falls where they spent Saturday night.

Creameries and milk plants of Todd County are co-sponsoring the Lake Region Dairy Day to be held in Wadena on June 26. The event will include a dairy livestock show and will be highlighted by the selection of a dairy princess to represent the 10 counties of Region III in the 1957 Princess Kay of the Milky Way contest.
