News from Eagle Bend's Past

July 29, 1998

Eagle Bend was host to the Northwest Regional Fireman’s Association meeting on July 16. Eighteen fire departments were represented. In addition to the dinner and business meeting, the firemen were given an introduction to the Helmet Mounted Imager. The helmet has an infrared camera mounted on the side, a video screen for a face shield. The camera senses heat from fire and projects the image on the screen, making it possible for firemen to see in a smoke-filled building. The imager costs about $25,000 and was demonstrated by the Moorhead Fire Department.

Todd County’s Country School District 138, the Reamer School in Burleene Township, has been closed since 1978. But its former students still have strong ties to their former learning center. A one-time reunion and potluck picnic was held the year the school closed. Those attending had such an enjoyable day, they decided to make it an annual event. Edith Nelson Johnson, Clarissa, is one of the Reamer School’s pupils. She has kept a scrapbook of reunion photos and news clippings on the yearly events.
