The Eagle Bend City Council held their first meeting with a 7 p.m. starting time which was later than most meetings. Probably the most important item was the budget, which was saved until last. City Administrator Kevin Hess told the council the proposed tax levy of $58,610 will make it an approximate 7% tax hike. Hess explained he had budgeted improvements into the 1999 budget to include proposed new bathrooms and a shower building.

Mrs. Fred Cossentine met with a very painful accident last Thursday while mowing the lawn. In some manner, a piece of steel, apparently from the mower, flew into her left eye. She was taken to a specialist in St. Cloud. The eye had to be scraped to remove the steel. Fortunately she will not lose her sight in that eye.
