The Eagle Bend City Council faced issues regarding health, safety and police procedure at Monday night’s meeting. An unexpected visit from Mr. and Mrs. Mark Patnode, brother of Chris Patnode who was killed in a motorcycle accident over the weekend, made a sobering impression on the council. Patnode was present mainly to make the point that he felt it was unnecessary for the Eagle Bend Police Officer to take pursuit of the speeding motorcycle the night of the accident, and wondered what the officer thought he could achieve by chasing the motorcycle.

Birds in the area will find some tasty treats awaiting them. On Thursday, Barb Landis, Great River Regional Library children’s services coordinator of St. Cloud, showed about a dozen children how to make feeders at the Eagle Bend Library. One type used milk cartons to hold the birdseed. They also made feeders using pine cones stuffed with peanut butter and then they were rolled in birdseed.

The C.A.A. held its annual meeting at the Eagle Bend School on Sunday afternoon. There was a good representation of clubs present, but the attendance of our local club was less than expected. It is disheartening to note how many sportsmen are indifferent to the problems that really confront their sport. And it will always be the active minority that carries the ball.

More than 2000 Minnesotan men, the majority of them volunteers, will be attending the “kick-off breakfast” at some time during the coming weeks launching the 1958 statewide Boy Scout Finance Drive in October.
