25 Years Ago

October 21, 1998

Voters who live within Eagle Valley School District 2759 will find a space on their November 3 General Election ballot to vote on an education referendum levy. If approved it will provide the district with an additional $315 per actual pupil unit. According to Superintendent Dale Svaren, “The additional revenue would be used several ways. We could reduce or maintain small class sizes and continue to add technology and needed software.”

The Todd County Farmer’s Union held a meeting at Tibby’s Cafe in Clarissa on October 13. Elected officers are Eldon Johnson, vice president; Herman Chillberg, president; Violet Zimmer, Treasurer; and Margaret Hanson, secretary. Speaker was Dennis Sjodin, vice president of the Minnesota’ Farmer’s Union. State Representative Mary Ellen Otremba spoke with Todd County farmers Lloyd and Judy Buhl after the meeting. Otremba spoke about how some of the water in Minnesota is getting polluted.

October 24, 1957

Evidence of hunters shooting at electric lines brought a warning from Minnesota Power and Light Company of the serious consequences caused by ruined power lines.

Reverend Leslie King, pastor of the local Assembly of God Church, reported that so much interest has been shown by the local people and that many other towns have been represented in attending the “Crusade for Christ” program being presented by Evangelist Paul Hilde. The service will continue through Sunday, October 27.
