Earlier this year, the Eagle Valley School Board had approved a motion to allow the administration to evaluate the offerings for the coming year. This is a yearly task, eliminating courses or programs that aren’t cost effective according to the numbers involved. One of the casualties was the golf program. The July 12 board meeting found parents, golf students and Coach Phil Carlson attending the meeting. “We are very disappointed that golf was canceled. We’re here as the parents of the golf team to ask why it was done, and if there’s any way you would reconsider your decision. We want this for our kids!”

DeeAnn Durheim, Wykeham Willing Workers 4-H Club, Eagle Bend, was named the Champion 4-H Sheep Exhibitor with her purebred ewe lamb, which also won the Champion Ewe Lamb ribbon. She also received the Champion Senior Sheep Show Person Ribbon.

Tackle Stuart Friese, recent graduate of Eagle Bend High School, will be one of 72 Minnesota high school seniors of 1973-1974 to play in the first annual Shrine Bowl All Star Football Game on July 27 at Memorial Stadium at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.

Filings for county and state offices closed at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Five additional filings were reported this week by County Auditor Mabelle Sabart. Four of them are the county commissioners of the second district. Donald E. Bain of Clarissa filed last week. New filings for the post are: Lyle “Scotty” Greenwaldt of Wykeham Township, Eagle Bend; Robert L. Sliter, Stowe Prairie Township, Hewitt; Glenn D. Line, Wykeham Township, Eagle Bend; and Clarence Gaugert, Bartlett Township, Bertha.
