News From Eagle Bend's Past


25 Years Ago

June 2, 1999

  Police Chief Tony Pangal told the city council he is going to change the image of Eagle Bend. He said he “didn’t know what he was getting into” when he came to Eagle Bend. “It’s been an uphill battle.” He was unprepared for the attitudes and behaviors in regards to law enforcement in the community. Pangal said kids come to Eagle Bend from out of town to “raise hell.” He also said it’s hard to enforce curfew law when parents go to the bar and leave their kids on the street after The Spot closes.

A committee, comprised of members of the Eagle Bend Area Development Corporation, recommended purchasing approximately four acres of land from Kay Nelson for a new city park. The council agreed to pay $6000 for the land and Nelson agreed to donate $2500 of that amount back to the city.

45 Years Ago

August 1, 1979

Kurt Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nelson, was selected by a vote of the Eagle Bend High School Band and Choir members as the most valuable graduating senior member of the music organization.

The Eagle Bend Babe Ruth baseball team advanced to district playoffs in hopes of gaining a berth in the state playoffs. The district tournament was held in Willmar on July 20 and 21. The teams participating were Montevideo, Atwater, Willmar and Eagle Bend.
