The 1999 Eagle Valley Homecoming was held on Monday, September 20. Queen Sara Johnson, daughter of Nancy Johnson of Eagle Bend and Mark Johnson, and King Justin Nelson, son of Rick and Sue Nelson of Eagle Bend, were crowned as royalty. Homecoming events this week include volleyball on Tuesday against Browerville and Thursday against Swanville and Friday night’s homecoming football game against Pillager.

Kipp Greenwaldt scored on a one-yard run with no time showing on the clock to give the Rebels a 24-20 thrilling victory over the visiting Royalton Royals last Friday night. The touchdown was set up on an exciting 44 yard pass play. The Rebels are now 2-1 and the Royals are 1-2 on the year.

A little excitement was created on Main Street early Monday morning when a pig, belonging to Lars Lidberg, escaped from his pick-up truck and began to wander the street. The pig was caught, thanks to several good Samaritans who quickly came to the rescue and helped get him safely back into the truck. Lars had stopped at the Main Street Cafe to pick up his wife, Eva, when the incident occurred. Hope he made it home with him okay.

The Eagle Bend Eagles again made just enough mistakes to lose last Friday in a 14-6 loss to Swanville. With the score tied 6-6 and only one minute and 40 seconds left in the game, Swanville had the ball on their own 42 yard line. Quarterback Doug Welinski dropped back to pass and threw to the left for Dale Lambrecht on a screen play that went for 31 yards to the Eagles 36 yard line.
