News from Eagle Bend's Past

25 Years Ago

November 29, 1995

Dave Joa is the new postmaster in Eagle Bend. He is pictured at his recent installation with Dallas Radle, Bemidji Postmaster. Joa comes to Eagle Bend from the Bemidji Post Office and prior to that, he worked in the bulk mail center in Minneapolis. Joa and his wife have three children ages 22, 18, and 14. They plan to move to the area in the middle of next month.

The General Livestock team consists of Owen Prather, Jacob Lorenz, Kyle Dave, David Durheim, and Josh Lubben. The Eagle Valley FFA livestock judging team traveled to Brainerd for the regional judging contest. Judging contestants placed in classes including 1200 pound steers, bull calves, heifer calves, gilts, ewes, ewe lambs, and market lambs. There were 12 teams in the contest. Eagle Valley FFA placed second behind Sebeka.


50 Years Ago

November 26, 1970

Three Eagle Bend football players were named to the all-conference team of the Prairie League by a vote from the coaches of the schools that are members. They are Randy Hess, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hess; Byron Hess, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reno Hess; and Allen Refsland, son of Mrs. Lois Refsland.

Residents of the community join with the bereaved family in mourning the death of a prominent businessman this past week when Walter B. Bergstrom, director, and cashier of the Citizens State Bank of Eagle Bend, passed away. His death came as a shock to his family, friends, and business associates as he had been hospitalized for only a few days and had been conducting his business in the usual manner.
