News from Eagle Bend's Past

May 22, 1996

Standing on a hilltop east of Eagle Bend is the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Cemetery. Eagle Bend’s Memorial Day observances, conducted by the present-day veteran's organizations, are held at the GAR cemetery. It has a history that dates back to the American Civil War, the war between the north and the south that was fought from 1861-1865. It also may be the only cemetery in Todd County that had its origin as a veteran’s cemetery.
