Eagle Valley Elementary School held its own Writer’s Fair this year on May 16. The 16 writers and two teachers traveled to Sunny Brook Park in Wadena to enjoy a day of nature, writing and pizza. The group enjoyed writing about nature. The Writer’s Fair participants were: Megan Schlicting, Aaron Johnson, Jessica Asfeld, Brittany Lorentz, Meg Soli, Mark LaVoie, Megan Skillings, Kali Dickinson, Wade Johnson, Brett Perish and Phillip Birk.

On Saturday, May 4, the Sunday school children, kindergarten through seventh grade, of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hewitt participated in a Walk-a-Thon to raise funds for the Hospice Program at Greater Staples Hospital. Children who participated were: Daniel Brauch, Tyler Kneisl, Ryan Kempe, Kayle Kempe, Eric Kimber, Gabriel VanHeel, Brittney Kimber, Brianna Kimber, Alex Kimber, David Brauch, Brian Fank, Andrew Kimber, Jake Rowe, Leif Tiegland, Jason Kempe, Sarah Brauch, Josh Rowe, Branden Kimber and Tonya Ashbaugh.

Terry Smith of Eagle Bend will sing under the direction of Dr. Richard Siedber in a performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams ‘A Sea Symphony’ on June 2 at the Northrop Memorial Auditorium on the University of Minnesota campus.

The annual Combined Funds Drive will soon be held in the village. And, according to the committee in charge, solicitors collected a total of $963.25 for the various charities in the first year’s annual fund drive. The effort shows an average of $5.20 donated by each contributor contacted.
