News from Eagle Bend's Past

25 Years Ago

July 3, 1996

On June 24 of this year, “Big Bad John” Pomerenke turned 80 years old. A party was held at Club Miltona with many friends and family members helping John celebrate his 80 years. He is well known in the Todd County area. After serving in World War II and spending four years in the Armed service, he bought a farm and moved to Rose City in 1952. He purchased six farms and rented two others. He also sold Farmer’s Union hybrid seed for 40 years. He started two Co-op oil companies, one in Alexandria and one in Wadena. He also owned the Rose City Cafe for two years.

Carlene Sandbakken and Shari Marcyes will be opening their new styling salon in Eagle Bend this Friday. Eagle Valley Stylists and Tanning is located in the former Vet Clinic. Sandbakken and Marcyes both graduated from the St. Cloud Model College of Hair Design in 1993. Carlene has been working at the Pampered Lady in Alexandria and Shari has been employed at Prairie Stylists and Cher’s Tanning in Long Prairie.


50 Years Ago

July 1, 1971

Donald A Gray, Todd County attorney for 13 years, was appointed Todd County judge of probate by Governor Wendell Anderson. He succeeds J. Norman Peterson, 70, who died suddenly at his home in Long Prairie on June 17.

Eagle Bend property transfers continue at an unprecedented rate with the sale this week of the Outlaw Store on Highway 71. In a recent property transfer, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Solid sold their business interests to Mr. Fred Cossentine and Mr. Willis Pearson, both of this community.
