The classes of 1949-1951 held their class reunion at the Forada Supper Club south of Alexandria on June 5. There were 92 in attendance. Lois (Barringer) Degendorfer, class of 1950, received from the drawing a beautiful reunion log cabin quilt made by Ardith (Weibye) Holstad, class of 1951.

Army National Guard Pvt. Joshua P. Hinrichs has entered basic military training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia. During the eight weeks of training, the soldiers will study the Army mission and will receive instruction in drills and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, military justice, first aid, Army history and traditions and special training in human relations.

Mr. and Mrs. Warren Painter of Tyler, MN have recently completed arrangements to assume the management of Klug’s Cafe. Bernie and Bud Klug will stay on in the cafe for a while to assist Cindy and Warren in becoming familiar with the business. All other personnel, Mrs. Frank Firkus, Karen Firkus, Marie Firkus and Mrs. Guy Miller, will be retained as employees on the same basis as when they worked for Bud and Bernie.

The ninth annual Old Timer’s picnic will be held on Sunday, August 1 at the Pioneer District schoolhouse located three and a half miles east of Bertha on County Highway 24. The picnic is an all day affair with a potluck lunch served at noon. Beverages will be furnished by the Pioneer Old Timers. The Pioneer School will be open for the day and everyone is cordially invited to attend.
