Over the years many things have changed at our local county fairs. One thing has not and that is finding Mary Ann Ehnes, rural Eagle Bend, working at the Todd County Fair. This year’s fair marked the 40th one in which Ehnes has participated as an employee from the county’s Extension Office. She usually spends about three weeks prior to the fair working in the office and helping prepare for the fair.

The 1996 Rebels volleyball team opened up its season with a big conference win over the Browerville Tigers last Thursday afternoon. The Rebels won 3-1 with individual game scores of 15-13, 15-12, 6-16, and 19-17. It was a long, drawn-out match in a sweltering gym. There were long volleys with good defensive plays made by both teams.

As an Indian girl learns about 4-H and youth development programs and agriculture from her American host families, so do they learn about her native India. Syeda Taskia Begum, an International Farm Youth Exchange visitor from India, is spending the remainder of her stay with the David Anderson family of Eagle Bend. She spent last week with the Bernard Gieske family of Sauk Centre.

Starting Wednesday, September 1, and continuing for three weeks, students at Eagle Bend High School will be participating in a program of benefit to the students, the school, and the community. A magazine subscription program is being organized and sponsored by the junior class.
