The American Heritage Hunting Club of Eagle Bend was established in 1986 when partners Don and Sue Ellwanger and Roger Wittmer saw an opportunity in the marginal farmland. Hunting land is rapidly decreasing as farms are being sold in 40 and 80-acre parcels. American Heritage has 558 acres. The land is a mixture of wooded areas and willow and cattail swamps. They are raising about 7000 birds right now, the majority being pheasants. Roger also raises about 1800 chukar partridges at his home.
