As farmers load up their cattle trailers and head to the Long Prairie sales barn, there’s one thing they can expect—Norval Krosch will be there to greet them. He’s spent over 60 years working at three sales barns. Krosch began working at the Blue Earth Sales Barn when he was 15 or 16 years old. About 1948, Norval and his wife Bernice moved to their farm in Wykehm Township, southwest of Eagle Bend. He worked for Harry Peterson at the Eagle Bend Sales Barn for 15 years. He locked the door after their last sale and took the remaining calves to the Long Prairie Sales Barn the next day. When he got there Paul Lavine asked him where he’d been, saying he should have punched in yesterday. In 1993, the Long Prairie Livestock Auction Market people presented Krosch with a plaque in appreciation for his dedicated work from 1965 to 1993.
