Remembering their garden angels

by Karin L. Nauber

Several members of the Hoe and Hoe Garden Club worked many hours putting in the finishing touches including installing the garden angel.

After Mary Ann Kotval passed away, the Hoe and Hope Garden Club of Clarissa received a memorial gift of money. Kotval had been a member of the club from 1970 until her death in 2017.

One of the members—Peggy Carlson—thought they should use that money in a meaningful way. She suggested an angel memorial garden.

That is how the idea for the Hoe and Hope Memorial Garden was born.

It was a lot more work to make it a reality. But what a beautiful reality it has grown into.

The Hoe and Hope Garden Club Memorial Angel Garden is located on the east end of Main Street in Clarissa where Bridge Street crosses it. Many painstaking hours went into creating the garden.

According to Club President LuAnn Holt, “We used that money as seed money and ordered memorial bricks for deceased members that served 10 years or more in the Hoe and Hope Garden Club. An angel statue, a hydrangea bush, and landscaping mulch were also purchased.” . . .
