Riewer celebrates 25 years
by Trinity Gruenberg
A trip to the Long Lake Conservation Center is a big event the Bertha-Hewitt sixth graders look forward to every year.
Long-time sixth-grade teacher Cathy Riewer has taken students to Long Lake since 1994. Along the back wall of her classroom, 25 handkerchiefs hang, each one signed by students from that year. She also proudly displays all of her wood cookies on a yardstick.
Riewer took over the reins when she was hired at the school. Bertha-Hewitt has been attending Long Lake since the 1970s when it was only for boys.
While times have progressed, and now boys and girls can attend, she never tires of going. . .
