School year looks to start off normal
by Trinity Gruenberg
As September nears, parents are preparing for back to school and wondering what this school year will be like and what will be required of the students.
You can expect a near-normal school year as our local schools are planning in-person learning. Bertha-Hewitt, Browerville and Verndale schools are not requiring vaccinations for staff or students. Masks are optional and are not required during the school day. Masks are only required on the school buses per federal regulation. Schools will continue to follow the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) requirements.
While the CDC recommends mask-wearing, it is not required. Schools will support the option for those who choose to wear a mask.
There is currently no social distancing requirement for schools or for after-school activities. Some may have a minimal amount of social distancing for safety purposes.
Staff and students are asked to self-screen daily and stay home if they are ill.
Guidance is not yet clear whether schools need to implement quarantine practices following a COVID exposure.
Schools are required to report any positive COVID cases to the state.
Students will return to the cafeteria for meals. Water fountains will be turned back on.
High contact areas will continue to be cleaned and sanitized regularly.
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems will be running to cleanse the air.
If your child requires additional accommodations, please contact your school. . .
