Barber Bob may be gone (but not forgotten). Now someone has stepped up to fill the void.

Joni Schmitz of Verndale set up shop in Bob’s former location in Verndale to serve the male clientele of Verndale.

Schmitz is the mom of Kelia, Kyle, Carter, Alex, and Kaia. She was previously active in pool and dart leagues in the area

While Schmitz works full-time at Tri-County Health Care, her shop is open in the evenings and on Saturdays, which has proven to be convenient for those who don’t have time during the daytime hours during the week to get a haircut.

Schmitz is a cosmetologist by trade, not a barber, and has been providing cuts for years. She felt that there were so many others that already provide services for females and she decided to try a new avenue.

She obtained her license through M State in Wadena and worked at Great Clips and Maddens.

After Bob passed away, friends encouraged her to open up a shop.

She took over the shop on May 1 and quickly got to work giving the space a makeover so she could call it her own. She painted the shop black and white, replaced the flooring and sink, and also added a TV. . .
