Student Success and Smart Spending Highlight School Board Meeting — FFA sets record, budget adjustments approved and Career Day takes flight

The Verndale School Board held their regular meeting on Monday, April 7. 

Career Exploration Day

School Counselors Katie Tackmann and Heather Lehmkuhl presented their plan for a Career Day at Verndale on April 24. The idea began about a year ago during a snow day discussion. 

The day’s schedule will begin in the second hour with a 30-minute rotation of career speakers from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by lunch. 

They have 27 career speakers lined up. Careers include cosmetology, entrepreneurship, accounting, and mental health. Life Link helicopter will fly in. Several Verndale alumni will speak. The Transportation Truck has 10 interactive activities, including automotive, collision repair, diesel, and more. The Ag Centrict trailer will have drone technology, animal models, and more. The National Guard rock climbing wall and military truck will be on-site. College representatives will be available and there will be a college and career escape room

There will be door prizes from local businesses. Student leaders from the Honor Society and FFA will help coordinate the event....
