After 4+ weeks of practices, the Browerville-Eagle Valley softball team finally opened the season on a chilly spring day at the College of St. Ben’s softball field.
The Tigers squared off against section 6A opponent, the Brandon-Evansville Chargers, on April 10 and came away with the 14-4, six-inning victory.
The Tigers plated six runs in the first and would never look back as they would pound out ten hits on the day to help seal the victory.
Senior Ava Lorentz led the way at the plate with 2 hits, and Sophomore Bristol Bruder pitched the complete game to get the win despite four Tiger errors.
On April 11, B/EV made the long trek to Graceville for another section 6A showdown with the Wolverines from Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley.
CGB finished 2nd at state last year and is returning 8 starters.
The Tigers would hang tough, but the Wolverines proved to be too much to handle as they would go on to defeat the Tigers by a final score of 0-10.
B/EV left 10 runners on base and couldn’t manage to bring them in with a clutch hit.
The Tigers’ defense struggled again with four more errors to aid the CGB offense, which scored 9 of its 10 runs with two outs.
Last Tuesday, Browerville/Eagle Valley held its home opener against one of its Prairie Conference rivals, the LP-GE Thunder. The Tigers and the Thunder exchanged blows early in the game, with each team taking a lead during the early innings.
B/EV would eventually put the game away with a six-run 5th inning and win by a final of 15-9.
The Tigers were paced offensively by Junior Miley Riedel, who was a perfect 5 for 5 at the plate on the day....
