Tigers finish week with two wins and 4th at their invitational
by Coach Mary Irsefeld
The Tigers traveled to Upsala on Tuesday evening to take on the Cardinals. The Tigers finished with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 26-24) win.
A strong start to the first set found the Tigers with an early 5-2 lead. 7-6 would be the closest the Cardinals would get before the Tigers put together an impressive offense to take set one 25-12.
Set two started with a 3-0 lead by the Tigers before the Cardinals would answer with their own run of 3 to tie up the set. A back and forth battle continued with a 9-9 score. The Tigers would push a few solid runs to take control of the set. A 25-19 finish in set two put the Tigers in the driving seat as they led the match 2-0.
In set three a 12-8 lead by the Tigers seemed promising. However, plagued by missed serves and poor execution on the offensive end, the Tigers nearly handed the third set to the Cardinals. Upsala took their first lead at 17-16. A 6-3 push by Upsala had the score at 23-19. Although it didn’t look good for the Tigers, they didn’t sit back and give up. A strong finish that pushed a 7-1 run by the Tigers rewarded them with the win.
Highlighted stats were Madison Browen with 4 ace serves and 17 digs....
