Tigers open with a win, fall to Royalton and Swanville

The Browerville-Eagle Valley Tigers opened up their volleyball season with the Bertha-Hewitt Bears. The match ended in the Tigers’ favor 3-1 (25-23, 18-25, 26-24, 25-14).
The first set was a back and forth battle and tied up at 14-14 before the Tigers pushed a 17-14 lead. Soon the Bears took their first time out as they found themselves down 16-20.
The Tigers would win the rally after the time out before the Bears pushed a run to put the set within one at 21-22. Another back and forth battle ended in favor of the Tigers at 25-23.
The Tigers started with a 4-1 lead in the second set. At 6-2 the Tigers suffered an injury to their left side. The score was soon 5-6 with 3 unanswered Bears points. The Bears tied up the set at 11-11. A battle continued until the Tigers found themselves down 16-19 and decided to take a time out.
The Tigers continued to struggle with the Bears’ double block and reading tips as they were now down 17-23. The set ended with the Bears up 25-18.
The Bears kept momentum into the third set as they took an early 1-4 lead. The Tigers would push points and tie up the set at 6-6.
The Bears jumped right back into the driver’s seat and jumped ahead to a 10-6 lead. The set continued with a Bears’ lead at 15-10.
Down 17-21, the Tigers were forced to use a time out to talk about some much needed communication and execution on offense....
