Todd County Board of Commissioners: Met with legislators on issues

by Karin L. Nauber

At their regular board meeting on September 7, the commissioners had the opportunity to address concerns with State Representatives John Poston and Ron Kresha.

A host of topics that are of concern to Todd County were addressed starting with public safety.

Todd-Wadena Community Corrections Director Kathy Langer talked about the fact that funding has not kept pace with the demand for service and that over the last 10 years they had only seen a .9% increase.

She said they did get a one-time increase of $10,000 for this two-year period.

“The counties can’t keep up,” she said.

Poston said they have been pushing on this issue, but being in the minority (Republican), they are not making much headway on this and a plethora of other areas.

Commissioner David Kircher said that the problem was that the counties have to make up the differences—the local taxpayers have to make up the difference.

Poston said that the problem will get worse. . .
