Todd County Board of Commissioners: No hiring freeze at this time

by Karin L. Nauber

Commissioner Randy Neumann brought forward a resolution to institute a hiring freeze for all departments in the county at the regular meeting of the Todd County Board of Commissioners last week.

“I have heard from so many who attended the April 19 meeting that was addressing residents’ concerns that it was a ‘waste of time’ and [other things],” said Neumann.

He added that the number of county employees has risen from 213 to approximately 235 employees over the past three years.

He felt that they should do a couple of years' hiring freeze.

“Everything is pretty nuts out there. I’m hoping the economy will get better,” he said.

He also felt that the departments needed to justify the replacements they hired.

Commissioner David Kircher said that he needed to understand the ramifications of this.

He said, “We are concerned. We give the departments their budgets but we are also looking at six unions that we negotiate with.” . . .
