Todd County Board of Commissioners: Solar discussion continues
by Karin L. Nauber
Commissioner Randy Neumann asked the board to further discuss the issue of solar panel farms in the county.
He said he had received phone calls about this since the last meeting when it was briefly discussed.
He told of one person who had been approached by a solar panel company. He said many discrepancies had been found in the contract by the individual’s lawyer. Even though they would receive $800 an acre per year, the person would have to insure the panels.
It was also discovered that the county would have to clean up the panels and the installations if the solar company went out of business.
The second call he received asked, “What happened to prime farmland?”
Neumann said his concerns were further fueled by his attendance earlier at the Association of Minnesota Counties conference and he heard about the many solar farms in Stearns County.
County Coordinator Chris Pelzer also talked to the Stearns County administrator and discussed the processes they considered. . .
