Todd County Board of Commissioners: Staples World makes a plea to be included for publications

by Karin L. Nauber

After discussion, the Todd County Board of Commissioners denied a request made by the Staples World newspaper to print the county’s official legal notices as a separate supplemental contract at a rate of $3.50 per column inch.

The Staples World, it was noted, has served as Todd County’s official legal publication for many years. However, this year due to a mix up in the letting of the bids, the Staples World which typically let the bid on behalf of themselves, the Long Prairie Leader and the Independent News Herald, missed the communications with the other newspapers and did not become part of the bid process.

Prior to the discussion at the meeting, the Staples World had submitted a letter requesting consideration of their publication as a supplement to the other publications in printing the legal notices.

This letter was available for review.

Commissioner David Kircher said, “I have a problem. Granted they have been involved but Jason [Brown, editor of the Long Prairie Leader] said they had contacted the World several times with no response. There was nothing from them at the bid opening.” . . .
