Todd County Commissioners: Another public hearing on Lake Shamineau outlet petition scheduled
by Karin L. Nauber
The ongoing drought that has been widely affecting Todd County and much of the state of Minnesota has had a minimal effect on Lake Shamineau in neighboring Morrison County near Motley.
The lake, which has been overfull for several years, now has continued to cause problems for homeowners including flooding of property and homes as well as outbuildings.
A state of Minnesota House bill was approved with funding for the Lake Shamineau High Water Project.
According to the bill HF 2942, $2,275,000 is “appropriated from the bond proceeds fund to the commissioner of natural resources for a grant under Minnesota Statutes, section 103F.161, to the Lake Shamineau Lake Improvement District to construct publicly owned capital improvements necessary to prevent or alleviate flooding outlined in the Lake Shamineau High Water Mitigation Project.
The funds would be provided through bond sales.
This is great news for Lake Shamineau, however, the issue is that they wish to “dump” the excess water from the lake into Todd County Ditch #41. . .
