Tracking academic success: MCA results

Students are preparing to take the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) for 2025 this spring. The MCAs measure student performance in math, reading, and science. These tests are given each spring to students in grades 3–8 for reading and math. In high school, students take a Reading MCA in grade 10 and a Math MCA in grade 11. Science MCAs are given in grades 5 and 8, and once in high school.

The MCAs, along with the alternate Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS), help schools track student progress and meet federal education requirements. Most students take the MCAs, while some students receiving special education services may take the MTAS if they meet eligibility requirements.

Attendance measures how often students attend school regularly. A student is considered consistently attending if they are present for more than 90% of their enrolled school days....
