Verndale Alliance Church welcomes new youth pastor Joe Ward

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Verndale Alliance Church has a new youth pastor who aims to keep youth returning to church long after graduation.

Two months after getting married, Joe and Emma Ward packed up their belongings in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and they arrived in Verndale on December 5 to start a new journey.

Joe saw the post seeking a youth pastor in Verndale and interviewed with Pastor Tony Stanley, who is also originally from Pennsylvania and a fellow Steelers fan.

This is Joe’s first job as a pastor. His home church, Chippewa Alliance Church, was the first church he attended, and he remained there for 14 years. Joe felt the call to youth ministry after attending The Life Conference, a youth conference in Orlando.

Joe served as a youth leader for seven years, which led him to become an intern for 15 months. This allowed him to hone in on different ministry skills, specifically in youth ministry. During that time, he also enrolled in a Bible program through college, studying alongside hands-on learning.

“That’s kind of where I was able to take that calling that God placed on my life and apply it to life a little bit more,” said Joe.

“I’m looking forward to making really close relationships and just being able to lead people and guide them and just kind of be the light of Christ in their lives, so that they can also go out into their surroundings, in their schools and homes, in their communities, and also reflect that light of Christ to them,” explained Joe....
