Verndale alumna publishes award-winning novel: 14 years of perseverance lead to publication
At age 16, Verndale High School student Jessica Sly made a goal to get a book contract with a traditional publisher by age 18. But even after many writers' conferences, manuscript drafts, and writing talks with her supportive English teachers, her 18th birthday came and went.
She graduated from Verndale in 2009 and attended the University of Northwestern to further her writing skills.
Yet when others would have called off the fight, Sly stayed in the trenches. Twelve years later, Sly landed a contract for her multi-award-winning debut, “The Promise of Deception.”
