EDA Purchases Parcel for Housing Development

Raye Ludovissie with the Economic Development Alliance (EDA) explained that an individual is selling some property, and the EDA is looking to purchase it to develop it and create housing.

The EDA voted unanimously to purchase the 12-acre lot for $80,000. However, they need the city’s approval to proceed with the purchase.

The EDA sees the lot as an investment with no potential buyers. It can use Wadena County’s tax abatement for new home construction. The EDA is also looking to ask Dean Uselman for assistance in creating the housing, as that is what he is doing in the city of Wadena for their new housing development.

The EDA is considering a half-acre for 24 lots on this parcel. Ludovissie said that, realistically, 15-20 lots would be enough. They could sell those lots and recover their funds to turn around and develop the parcel. The idea they are leaning towards is making townhomes, not income-based housing....
