Verndale City Council: Handling of a water bill is an issue

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Verndale City Council held their regular meeting on October 10. Member Jim Runyan was absent.

Water Bill

Roberta Schultz discussed the water bill issue from the previous month. The tenant has been evicted but something has to be done about the water bill. She asked City Clerk Melissa Current about the deposit and learned it can’t be used until the account is closed out. Schultz also noted that if she had been notified sooner about the tenant not paying and racking up a large bill, she could have evicted him sooner.

The tenant had told Current several times that he would come and pay and never did. Schultz said this was ongoing for seven months before she was notified. The previous clerk did notify her. The water bill is $569.
