Verndale City Council: Residents voice concerns over proposed sidewalk project
by Trinity Gruenberg
The Verndale City Council held its regular meeting on Monday, August 12. Council Members Brad Cottrell and Jim Runyan were absent.
Concerns Over Proposed
Sidewalk Project
Citizens on Thompson Street attended the meeting to voice their concerns with the proposed sidewalk project with Safe Routes to School. Lisa Randall had questions for the engineer, Ryan Odden, who was absent. The council had hoped for an update, but the survey was not yet completed, so there was no reason for Odden to attend this meeting. There was no new information.
Randall was also concerned about the water that ran into her and the neighbor’s yards, stating there was no way to put a sidewalk there. Public Works Supervisor Matt Uselman explained that issue to the surveyors.
Randall questioned if she would be reimbursed if they removed her 40-year-old hedge. Uselman said it is in the right-of-way. Randall added that her car would be parked on the sidewalk due to the space it would take. The council said nothing is set in stone for the plan yet. There will be a public hearing when they get to that point. Randall was disappointed by the lack of notification to the residents who’d be affected by the project....
